Club Programme

Sun 5th May. Day Walk Mt Martha Reserve, Martha Cove & Moorooduc Quarry Flora & Fauna Reserve. ~12 km. Easy/Medium.

This walk will encompass three different sites in the Mt Martha and Moorooduc area with sea views and an old quarry site, including a stroll along the Martha Cove Marina.

 

Thursday 9th May. 7.45 pm Club General Meeting.

 

Sat 11th May. Keppel Lookout and Steavensen Falls Marysville. 12 km. Med.

Some excellent waterfalls and hopefully wildlife as you explore the stringybark and mountain ash forests. The first section up to Keppel Lookout is quite steep, but after that it is a gentle walk. You will pass Oxley Lookout, Del La Rue Lookout, and the Steavenson Falls Lookouts –expansive views of the greater Yarra and Cathedral Ranges.

 

Wed 15th May. Midweek short walk Damper Creek Reserve (Mt Waverley) and beyond. Easy 8 km.

An easy amble through two parks and some connecting suburban streets. Damper creek is a delightful piece of remnant bushland.

 

Sun 19th May. Bike Ride Seville to Warburton starting at the Carriage Café. 50 km. Med.

We start with a hearty breakfast at the Carriage Café in Seville and then ride to Warburton. Watch out for the speed camera on the hill down into Seville !!

 

Sun 26th May. Day Walk Wonthaggi Heathlands and Baxter’s Beach. 13 km. Easy.

A circuit walk passing through part of the old State Coal Mine, under the turbines of the Wonthaggi Wind Farm and along Baxter’s Beach.

 

Sun 2nd June – Bike Ride Edithvale to Frankston and Return. 35 km. Easy.

Includes a stop at the famous Mr Franks Café !!

 

Sun 9th June – Charlies Birthday Urban Walk Melbourne Laneways etc. 12 km.

Get a feel for the real Melbourne. Explore some of the famous city laneways . See Gog and Magog and who knows what else. We might even end up at the Fairies Tree.

Tue 18th Jun. Midweek short walk Sweetwater Creek Frankston South. 8 km. Easy.

Sun 23rd Jun. Bike Ride Hampton Park Shopping Centre to Cranbourne Botanical Gardens. 40 km.

 

Sun 30th Jun. Day Walk Mt Evelyn Aqueduct and Silvan Reservoir. 12 – 16 km. Easy – Med

Pleasant walking, mostly on wide trails.

 

Sun 7th Jul. Day Walk A Ramble around Rhyll – Phillip Island. 10 – 12 km. Easy.

Sun 14th Jul. Day Walk Eastern Dandenong Ranges Trail – Clematis to Cockatoo.10km. Easy.

A nice winter’s stroll along this newly created rail trail partly following the Puffing Billy line, the Nobelius Track, Emerald Lake, Wombat Corner and the Wrights Forest.

 

Wed 17th Jul. Mid-Week Walk Ringwood lake to Mullum Mullum Creek. 10km. ( plus 2km if you want coffee !! ).

 

Sun 21st Jul. Day Walk Wirilda Track ( North of Morwell ). 10 km. Med.

Walk down the Tyers River Valley, south of Moondarra Reservoir. Great views of the river from narrow foot tracks along the steep sided valley. Maybe a shallow river crossing.

 

Sun 4th Aug. Day Walk Mount Riddell near Healesville. 12 km. Med.

A there-and-back walk up Mt Riddell in the Yarra Ranges National Park. A gradual climb at first, becoming steeper nearer the top with great views over the Maroondah Reservoir, mountains and valleys from cleared viewing points.

 

Wed 7th Aug. Midweek short walk Lysterfield Lake. 6 – 8 km. Easy.

A great place for kangaroos and lots of birds. Easy wide tracks.

Sun 11th Aug. Bike Ride Forster Rd to Blackburn Lake and return. 40 km. Medium

 

Sun 18th Aug. Day Walk Mt Tanjil Loop in Moondara State Park. 14 km. Med – Hard.

Mostly fire trails so easy under foot but about 800 m vertical to the top of Mt Tanjil.

 

Sun 25th Aug. Day Walk Billys Creek – Morwell State Park. 12 km. Medium.

Wed 28th Aug Mid Week walk A Wednesday Winter Wander. 8 – 10 km. Easy.

Note this is SATURDAY as tomorrow is Fathers Day

Sun 8th Sept. Day Walk Adams Creek Nature Reserve. 10 km. Easy.

This is a hidden gem north-west of the Gippsland town of Nyora in sand belt heath woodland. We will follow flat and undulating tracks and walk the old disused railway line running through the middle of the reserve. Abundant Wildflowers.

Fri 20th to Sun 22nd Sept. Tarra Bulga National Park.

3 day weekend staying in cabin accommodation .

Option for extra walks on the Grand Strezlecki trail nearby.

 

Sun 29th Sept Bike Ride Yarraman to Flinders Street. 30-35 km. mainly flat.

Return by train.

 

Sun 6th Oct. Day walk. Explore Jacksons Creek and the Holden Flora Reserve.

( Near Sunbury ). 13 km. Med+.

Explore this interesting creek valley including the site of the famous Sunbury Pop Festival of the early 1970’s

 

Thurs 10th Oct 7.45 pm – Monthly Club General Meeting.

 

Tues 15th Oct. Walk and Nature Talk at the Australian Garden at Cranbourne.

A walk in Australian Garden and adjacent bushland followed by a talk on snakes (maybe) and how they manage them in this environment. The garden will be spectacular and in full bloom and the snakes up and about in the sun (we hope not).

 

Sun 20th Oct. Day Walk Pauls Range – Dixons Creek. 15 km. Med.

This is a pleasant circuit walk through undulating country in Pauls Range State Park with magnificent ridge views, plenty of birds and the possibility of wildflowers in bloom.

 

Fri 25th Oct – Sun 27th Oct. Base Camp. A wonderful weekend at Walhalla

We will explore the historic town of Walhalla and surrounds.

 

Sun 3rd Nov. Bike Ride Tyabb Central Reserve to Coolart wetlands. 35 – 40 km.

Generally flat riding. BBQ at Coolart homestead

 

Sun 10th Nov. Morley’s Track – Dom Dom Saddle to Fernshaw. 14 km Med.

This track descends into the Watts River valley through the Mountain Ash forest of the Black Spur and follows the Watts River to Fernshaw.

Sun 17th Nov. Day Walk The Briars (near Mt Martha) 10 – 15 km Easy – Med.

We will explore The Briars historic property & homestead built in 1851. We then walk along the Balcombe Creek estuary to the Mt Martha foreshore and along the coast towards Mornington. Distance can be varied in discussion with participants.

 

Sun 24th Nov. Weekend Camping or Day Walk Mt Torbeck & Royston Power Station.

We drive to Eildon and walk to the summit of Mt Torbeck on Saturday. 6 km Med/Hard with 300m climb.

We camp near the Royston Power Station on Saturday night.

On Sunday we explore the old Royston Power Station and its hydro scheme. 12 km Medium, includes some climbing

 

Sun 8th Dec. Day Walk Shoreham to Flinders return. 12km. Easy/Medium.

A nice summer’s stroll along the beach and rocky outcrops of Westernport Bay to the Flinders Pier with spectacular ocean views across to Phillip & French Islands from the park where we will have lunch then return.
